During this tour you get to see the largest quadriga in Europe and a view of the city of Braunschweig from above. You get an impressive view of the city and learn a lot of facts about the ducal palace. The facade of this building has only recently (2005 – 2007) been reconstructed using original parts which survived and were preserved over the years. This prestigious building from the 19th century was severely damaged during World War II and then completely demolished in 1960. From there the tour continues via the Bohlweg to the Rathaus (new town hall), a neo-Gothic style building. The tour finishes on the medieval Burgplatz where you learn about the origins of Dankwarderode Castle that dates back to the 12th century and that was a former residence of Henry the Lion. You also get to know about St. Blasii cathedral and the bronze lion statue – the first large freestanding sculpture north of the Alps and the landmark of Braunschweig.
